About Us

CXL is a social business.  But what does that mean?

What makes CXL different is our commitment to finding sustainable solutions to the social problems caused by worklessness in adults and young people, providing help to move people forward in learning and work based on good commercial sense. This often means working with those who are most vulnerable in the workplace, such as offenders and ex-offenders, young people, lone parents. We see no reason why everyone shouldn’t have the best start in life so we invest our profit in that purpose.

Much of CXL’s business is currently based in the North West of England around our Head Office in Lancashire, and we recognise that we have an important role to play within that community - not just as an employer of local people but also as a contributor to the local economy and the environment. If we can, we use local suppliers for local goods; where possible we are increasingly using organic or renewable resources to run the business and we are committed to reducing waste and increasing recycling. In addition, we look after our people with an extensive training programme; the opportunity to engage in the running of the business through our open “Challenge Teams”, and through our commitment to healthy employees with support to give up smoking as well as a new healthy eating approach to food.

Derian House was voted as our very first corporate charity and CXL colleagues had fun running fundraising events which included a Teddy Bear Picnic, team “Bake-In” competitions; sponsored walks and dress down days.

CXL's chosen charity for 2008/09 is Blackburn Nightsafe project, a small local charity that provides holistic services to homeless young people aged 16-24.

CXL is firmly rooted in the public sector. Our Shareholders are the three local authorities of Blackburn with Darwen, Lancashire and Blackpool; so we understand the importance of offering best value services with transparent accounting for public scrutiny.
