Diploma in Careers Education (DICE)

CXL provides area co-ordination of the Diploma in Career Education in conjunction with Nottingham Trent University.  It is an accredited CPD programme for education professionals involved in the coordination or delivery of careers education and guidance and is a a thought-provoking, conceptual course which is grounded in practice and results in the development of competent career education practitioners.

What is Career Education? Career Education involves preparing individuals in the art of becoming effective career educators and / or advisers. The course aims to develop a clear understanding of exactly what should be provided to the recipients of Career Education. The design and delivery of the course is a joint venture between practitioners of Career Education and Guidance (CEG) and the University. This strong link with practice helps to ensure that the Diploma remains current, relevant and responsive to local needs.  The course has a long history of success in this area of learning; operating since 1995, it currently has approximately 250 students from around the country undertaking its training.

How do you study? The course is designed to provide high levels of participant flexibility and participant support. The modules are delivered at teaching / training centres in various locations across the Midlands and North West of England, and therefore occur several times a year. You can negotiate an appropriate venue and time for study.

What do you study? All modules require two day blocks of university attendance, except the independent study project, which is only one day.  Independent learning is expected in all cases.  To achieve the Diploma in Career Education you are required to complete 60 credit points overall; 40 compulsory and 20 optional from various modules.

Entry requirements: This is an open access course. Applicants should have an interest in Career Education and the ability to study at diploma level.

Course length: 1-3 years part-time at local centres.

How is it funded? Some Local Authorities will fund an agreed number of students to attend the course.  In order to find out of this applies to contact CXL.  If you are unable to obtain funding from your Local Authority your education establishment would need to fund the cost of you attending.  Prices per head can be obtained by contacting CXL.
