Eric Wright Construction
Eric Wright Construction, based in Bamber Bridge, is already helping young people to challenge the gender stereotypes with several female students enrolled on programmes.
Phoebe O’Shaughnessy and Beth Holt will both gain a BTEC Level 2 in construction from their placements. Their work will include learning about architecture, CAD drawings, quantity surveying and estimating, with some time spent out on site.
Phoebe, 15, says: “I’m really keen to do well and pursue a career in this field, not many girls my age chose construction as a career path, but it is a really strong industry that will always be around, and I always enjoyed science and technology at school so it is a good career choice for me. I’d like to see more girls like me working here and this project will help that.”
Alex McCrickard, group architect at Eric Wright, says: “Projects like this are of real benefit to us and we’re pleased to help young people like Phoebe and Beth learn about our industry and gain real hands on, practical experience. We are always interested in bringing new skills and different types of young people in to our business. This project ties in well with our Learning Foundation, which has now assisted over 750 young people to gain valuable construction experience and qualifications.”
