Jake Peacock, 16, has been taken on as an Apprentice Hairdresser at Bohemian Artistry Hair Studio in Lancaster.

Jake, who suffers from the learning difficulty Dyslexia, has wanted to be a hairdresser since he was 6 years old.

Jake says; “Although hairdressing tends to be a more female dominated career, it is what I have always wanted to do and people shouldn’t be judged by the career they want to do. Having learning difficulties like my Dyslexia shouldn’t stop people either and I am proving that I can work just like everyone else. This programme will really help young people like me to achieve their dreams, no matter what their ability.”

Jake’s duties include meeting and greeting clients, washing and blow drying hair and keeping the salon tidy, whilst training to be a stylist.

Sam Jarrett-Harlow, owner of the salon, says; “Jake is a great addition to the team, he’s picked up techniques really quickly. The programme will help young people like Jake do what they want to do, and will help businesses to gain skilful young workers that wouldn’t normally apply.”
